Choral Art

As a conductor and artistic director, Lone Larsen has led numerous recordings and musical projects, each reflecting a unique artistic vision. This page presents a selection of significant works and collaborations – from inspiring community art projects to productions with professional choirs on the highest musical level.

  • Larsen is a highly energetic and focused conductor, acting as a force field that elevates and unites everyone in the room.

    — Review by Jürgen T. Widmer, Kirchenmusik-festival, Germany

  • It was clear that Lone Larsen controlled every tiny detail of this remarkable choir’s expression with her precise conducting and vivid facial expressions. Yet in this context, she had deliberately chosen not to make herself a central figure in the performance.

    Review Tore Mortensen, Nordjyske Stiftstidende

  • …Lone Larsen is a genius conductor with grand, clear gestures that motivate every single tone... Her conducting is both powerful and liberal, and her impulses create room for each soloist to express themselves.

Review Rainer Wiese - GMünder Tagespost, Germany
European Choral Music Festival, Schwäbisch - GMünd

The Calls

A choir performing on a dimly lit stage with red lighting, surrounded by a seated audience in a large hall. The choir members are standing in a line, some raising their arms.

The Calls is a collaboration between composer Niels Rosing-Schow, Canadian visual artist Brendan Fernandes, curator Catherine Lefebvre, designer Henrik Vibskov and conductor Lone Larsen.

In The Calls, the alluring calls of sirens from Greek mythology merge with the urgent sound of modern-day police sirens—partly inspired by the recent years' Black Lives Matter protests.

Niels Rosing-Schow's music is composed for DR Vokalensemblet and written for 18 individual vocal parts. The piece is structured as a series of sonic scenarios, where the singers move in different formations throughout the performance. The performers have certain freedom to shape parts of the piece themselves, including the ending, which takes the form of a collective improvisation.

This recording extracts from the piece with a total durata of approx. 24 min.

Community Art

"What Does Life Do to Us?" – A collaboration together with Fisksätra Museum that collected stories of migration and life in Sweden from residents of a marginalized area in Stockholm. The music and performance were built on their stories, with 30 participants taking part in the project alongside VoNo and professional musicians. Film by Josef Sjöblom.

In the project "Having a Voice" at Folkoperan in Stockholm participation and accessibility to the art form of opera were increased through choir singing and the opportunity was created for different voices and stories to be heard on the opera stage. This included the project "Disguised God," where Roma EU citizens and professional choir singers worked together on stage, and "Calling Home," where musicians from Syria shared their stories through music and song.
